I moved to Mitchell, SD from Northern Wisconsin in 2017 with my wife, Mary (McCardle), and our daughters, Ava and Anna. I have been completely impressed with the warm welcome we've received.
Certainly, our transition has been simplified by Mary's deep ties to Mitchell. Her father, Dr. Robert McCardle, moved to Mitchell in 1949 when he was hired as the Athletic Director and Head Basketball and Football Coach at Dakota Wesleyan. His basketball coaching success and passion earned him a spot in the DWU Athletic Hall of Fame. Later, he served a long tenure as the Superintendent of the Mitchell School District in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, where he was instrumental in establishing and developing the Mitchell Technical Institute. He then joined the private sector as an executive of Mitchell-based Randall's Grocery Stores, overseeing the operations of Randall's 50+ grocery stores throughout the Midwest. His larger-than-life personality and strong work ethic are still topics of conversation in Mitchell nearly three decades after his passing.
Another important aspect of our move to Mitchell has been our daughters experience in school and their extra-curricular activities. We have been blown-away by the high quality of teaching, the passion for our kids' well-being, and the desire for achievement exhibited at each level of schooling we've encountered. In addition, our daughters have been able to join top-notch athletic programs (gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, etc.) and renowned music programs (the Mitchell Area Children's Choir, which sang the national anthem at a Minnesota Twins baseball game last summer) that surpass the quality of programs typically only available in much larger cities.
As for me, personally, I am completely satisfied as long as I have access to a golf course and a driving range. Mitchell excels in this area as well. Its two quality golf courses (Wild Oak and Lakeview) provide tremendous value by offering challenging yet playable layouts with great greens, both at affordable prices. (The only problem is that I've lost more than my share of matches...there are some pretty good players here!)
So, if you already live here, I'm sure you agree that Mitchell is a great place to live. I hope to meet you in the near future if I haven't already. Alternatively, if you're looking to relocate your family or your business to Mitchell, I'm confident you'll be happy with your decision. Throughout my business career, one thing has remained a constant: an unrelenting focus on the customer experience. My "Customer First" ideal is more than just a goal...it is a way of life. It enabled my brother and me to grow our commercial real estate business into the 2nd fastest growing company in the country between 2005 and 2007 (INC. Magazine's 2008 INC 500 List). I know from personal experience that if I treat my customers properly, they will treat me properly, which leads to referrals, repeat business, and a loyal customer base. Nothing is more important than a satisfied customer.
Anyone can put a "For Sale" sign in a front yard and wait for a customer to call. But, when a problem arises, you need someone with deep real estate experience to get you to closing.
Since obtaining my real estate brokerage license in 1999 and my law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2002, I have personally been involved with thousands of real estate transactions, ranging from a simple purchase of an $8,000 vacant lot to a complex syndication and master lease of a $45 million apartment community with 35 owners completing Sec. 1031 tax-deferred exchanges. I have in-depth experience in real estate law, brokerage, property management, insurance, taxation, development, and financing. So, whatever size deal you're looking to buy or sell, I have the expertise to help you close the transaction.
